Cafe Thoras: Rugged Charm and a Proper Copenhagen Vibe

Inside the newly opened community space Thoravej 29—tucked just off Frederikssundsvej on a quiet residential stretch—Café Thoras is everything you’d expect from a well-designed Copenhagen café—and then some. The building itself reopened in late winter/early spring 2025, and just like the rest of Thoravej 29, the café was built using upcycled materials from the site’s previous structure. You can feel it the moment you walk in. One of my friends, after joining me for a coffee last week, said it might be the most Copenhagen aesthetic building they’d ever seen. I agree. And lucky for me, it’s only a few minutes from home.

Think industrial, minimal, modern, and clean—without feeling cold. The seating area isn’t huge, but it rarely gets overcrowded, making it a great little pocket to unwind or work quietly.

The menu is compact but thoughtful. They open early with a classic Copenhagen breakfast lineup: Coffee Collective brews, croissants, buns with cheese, and a few well-selected pastries. Breakfast technically starts at 8, but since most of it doubles as all-day snacks, it’s available whenever. From 10am, they start serving sandwiches and lunch, which—like everything here—is kept simple, fresh, and tasty. Most dishes are built around seasonal greens, vegan or vegetarian proteins, and vibrant flavor combos that look as good as they taste. You’ll also find a small but sharp selection of drinks, including beers from Brøl, the circular brewery that brews using surplus bread. If you visit for one of the many events at Thoravej 29, chances are the food will come from the Thoras kitchen too—and they consistently deliver.
