Swim, Chill, Repeat: The Best Summer Spots Near Nordvest

Let’s be honest: Nordvest is one of the only neighborhoods in Copenhagen without direct access to the water. So when summer hits and the rest of the city seems to spill out into canals, beaches, and piers, it can feel a little… landlocked.

But here’s the good news: you don’t have to go far. Whether you’re craving a quick dip, a full beach day, or just a quiet corner to soak up the sun, some of Copenhagen’s best swimming and sunbathing spots are just a short bike ride or bus trip away from NV. Over time, I’ve found a few favorites I return to again and again — depending on the mood, the weather, and how much time I have.

Here’s my go-to guide for swimming and summer lounging close to Nordvest!

🏊 My Favorites

🏖️ Nordhavn Badezone (15 min by bike, 25 min by bus+walk)

This is probably the spot I go to most often. Since I work in Østerbro, it’s easy to swing by after work for a refreshing swim (but may be crowded!) — or even squeeze in a peaceful morning dip if I’m feeling ambitious. It’s simple and convenient, with clean water and a nice mix of regulars. Nothing fancy, but it always hits the spot.

🏋️‍♀️ Bellahøj Friluftsbad (10 min by bike, 5 min by bus, 25 min walk)

When I want to swim laps or just move a bit, this retro public pool in NV is a favorite. I go there often, especially for morning swims before work or days when I don’t feel like dealing with seaweed or sand. It’s got a nostalgic feel, lots of grass for lounging, and just feels like a hidden classic.

🏝️ Reffen & La Banchina (25 min by bike, 35 min by metro+bus)

When I want more of a hangout — food, drinks, a swim, a bit of sun (and fun!) — this is where I go. Reffen has a cool, urban beach vibe, with food stalls, bars, and space to lounge. If we’re meeting friends in the afternoon, it often turns into a longer evening. And La Banchina, just next door, is also perfect for a swim and some natural wine by the water.

🏖️ Bellevue Beach (35 min by bike, 30 min by S-train from Nørrebro)

This is the one I save for a proper afternoon or day off. It’s more of a commitment to get there, but I love it — the sand is soft, the water is clear, and the whole vibe feels like a mini escape from the city. The Arne Jacobsen architecture gives it a very Danish design touch, too. It’s the kind of place where you unpack your things and stay a while.

🌿 Other Great Spots Near Nordvest

Svanemølle Strand (20 min by bike, 25 min by bus+walk)

Closest sandy beach to NV and very mellow. Shallow waters and a nice pier make it great for a chill swim or reading session. It can get crowded on weekends, but still feels like a relaxing time.

Amager Strandpark (35 min by bike, 40 min by metro)

Spacious and super versatile — swim, paddleboard, or just people-watch. You get long stretches of sand and great views of the wind turbines. Perfect for sporty types or people who want a bigger beach vibe. Food is available nearby as well.

Ishøj Strand (1h by bike, 45min by S-train+walk)

Feels like an actual vacation spot. If you have time, it’s worth going for the sense of space and nature. Big dunes, family-friendly, and great for a full beach day. Little cafe on the beach is there is you feel like sandwiches or a beer to go!

Kalvebod Bølge (20 min by bike, 30 min by public transport)

Great inner-city dip spot. Floating platforms, good views, and close to central cafés. You can easily combine a swim with a city day. Can feel a bit busy at peak times. No real food very close by so bring you snacks!

Sydhavnstippen / Valbyparken (30 min by bike, 40 min by bus)

Feels wild and peaceful — like you’ve left the city. Not the first place most people think of, which makes it even better. No facilities, so pack what you need.

Furesøbad (50 min by bike, 1h by S-train+bus) Want a freshwater option? This lake beach is lovely and forest-lined. A bit more of a trip, but still accessible. Water is clean and often warmer than the sea.

Badezone Byskoven (35 min by bike)

One of the most under-the-radar spots on this list. Quiet, green, and peaceful. It feels like a secret — and it’s not far from home. Great for people who like a wilder, more natural swimming experience.

Even if Nordvest doesn’t have its own harbor or beach, it doesn’t take much to escape the concrete. From public pools and secret piers to busy beach days and slow sunset swims, there’s something nearby for every summer mood.

If you live in NV or are just visiting this side of town, I hope this little guide helps you find your go-to swim spot. Let me know your favorite — and maybe I’ll see you there, towel in hand.
