Kulturnatten in Nordvest: Without Leaving the Postcode
Culture Night in Copenhagen takes over the city on Friday, October 9: 6pm to midnight, over 200 institutions for one night only. Between a mosque opening its doors for the first time in a while, a church turned starry-sky installation, and a library turned underwater dreamworld, Nordvest and the neighbourhoods around it are pulling some of the best of it. Here's the full rundown and a route for the core of it.
🕯️ Grundtvigs Kirke (Bispebjerg) — a starry sky for one night
The cathedral's interior turns into a starry-sky installation, choir and organ music running all night. Climb the tower or duck into the crypt café if you want to linger.
📍 På Bjerget 14B
💃 Dansekapellet (Bispebjerg) — dance, architecture, and a silent disco
The youth dance company performs a piece on group dynamics, with tours of the chapel-turned-dance-house running alongside — closing out with a silent disco.
📍 Bispebjerg Torv 1
📷 Fatamorgana (Nordvest) — open house at the photography school
Denmark's art photography school throws its doors open for the night — a rare look inside.
📍 Tomsgårdsvej 19
☪️ Imam Ali Mosque (Nordvest) — architecture, religion & dialogue
Turquoise dome, two 32-metre minarets — the mosque opens up for a night of architecture tours and interfaith conversation.
📍 Vibevej 25-27
🎤 Vandværket (Nordvest) — gospel inside a water tower
Two church choirs performing gospel inside one of Nordvest's most atmospheric buildings, lit up for the night.
📍 Rabarbervej 2
💧 Nørrebro Bibliotek (Nørrebro) — Ebbe & Flod
The library turns into a sensory, water-themed universe — light projections and a bubble show early on, live ambient/electronic sets later.
📍 Nørrebrogade 208
🤝 Muhabet (Nørrebro) — Community Across Borders
The recovery house's intercultural celebration — art, a concert, workshops, and free food. Right next door to the library.
📍 Bragesgade 8C
📝 Kulturlab Kapellet (Nørrebro) — A Piece of My Poetry
Youth-made text, photography and installations, hosted by the young people who made them, with a concert running through the evening. A bit further east — not part of the walking route below.
📍 Kapelvej 4
🚔 Politimuseet (Nørrebro) — The Ryesgade Occupation, 40 years on
Talks, guided Nørrebro walking tours, a forensic-photography exhibition, and historic police vehicles — marking 40 years since the 1986 Ryesgade occupation. Also further east, past Kulturlab Kapellet.
📍 Fælledvej 20
🗼 Brønshøj Vandtårn (Brønshøj) — the water tower whispers
An interactive audio walk through the old water tower turned cultural house — further out toward Brønshøj, worth the detour if you want to keep the night going.
📍 Brønshøjvej 29
🔞 SMil København (Brønshøj/Vanløse) — open house, 18+
A members' club opens its doors for a tour, talks, and demonstrations. Adults only, further out toward Vanløse.
📍 Skjulhøj Allé 57A
🚶 The route
Seven of the stops above sit in two tight clusters close enough to walk between — Bispebjerg's Grundtvigskirken and Dansekapellet, bridged by Fatamorgana into the central cluster of the mosque, Vandværket, the library, and Muhabet:
Grundtvigskirken → Dansekapellet (200m) → Fatamorgana (1.0km) → Imam Ali Mosque (1.0km) → Vandværket (670m) → Nørrebro Bibliotek (1.3km) → Muhabet (60m)
About 4.3km total, roughly an hour of walking spread across the evening. Kulturlab Kapellet, Politimuseet, Brønshøj Vandtårn, and SMil København all sit further out in their own directions — good options if you want to extend the night, but not part of this particular walk.
🍻 Pit stops along the way
If you want to stop for food or drinks between any of these, here's what's along the way:
Dansekapellet → Fatamorgana
Fatamorgana → Imam Ali Mosque
Imam Ali Mosque → Vandværket
Vandværket → Nørrebro Bibliotek
