Celebrating Love and Steam: Our Anniversary at Just Sauna

Last weekend, I went to Just Sauna with my husband as part of our wedding anniversary celebration. I was invited to try it out in exchange for an honest review online, and when I asked if I could bring him along to mark the occasion, they very kindly said yes—making it a special outing for the two of us.

Just Sauna is located in the Urban 13 area, right under the Bispeengbuen bridge. From Rentemestervej, where we live, it’s a bit further than some of the other saunas we’ve been to—but it’s much closer for anyone living in the southern part of Nordvest, Nørrebro, or Frederiksberg, where sauna options are fewer (or none?). For folks in those areas, it’s a great local option.

The Urban 13 area is vibrant and full of life—you’ll find a skate park, Pop’s Diner, a bar, and frequent pop-up events. It’s also near Café Lunden, making it easy to turn a sauna visit into a full afternoon. That said, being under the bridge, the area could use a bit more upkeep. Some outdoor seating near the sauna was quite dirty—likely due to shelter from rain and infrequent cleaning. It’s something to be aware of, but it doesn’t take away from the welcoming vibe or the sauna experience.

The sauna space itself is simple but full of charm—think wooden walls, a soft maritime palette of blue and white, potted plants, and warm, inviting lighting. We were warmly welcomed by the team hosting the session and made our way up to the changing area, and you can either leave your belongings upstairs in the changing rooms (bring a lock!) or leave your things in front of the sauna (very visible and safe). The sauna is cozy—not large, but intimate in the best way. Just Sauna provides water and electrolytes throughout, which makes a big difference. What stood out was having two different gusmester (is it gusmestre for plural? I still do not speak danish very well…) leading the sessions, each with their own scent blends, music, and style. One moment felt like a serene forest retreat, the next had us gently swaying to reggaeton. Playful, unexpected, and somehow exactly what Sunday needed.

Outside the sauna, there are cold showers (truly cold!) and a plunge tub. The tub wasn't as icy as we’d hoped, but the team tossed in some ice after the first round—next time, a bit more prep there would help. Still, the contrast between heat and cold was invigorating, as always. Currently, Just Sauna offers two weekend sessions—midday on Saturdays and Sundays. This kind of gentle weekend ritual could really catch on, especially with more guests. It also seems like Just Sauna is branching out beyond their regular schedule: they recently hosted a special event in collaboration with Mayas, a sustainable swimwear brand, combining yoga and sauna for a full mind-body experience.

There’s also a growing list of special events worth keeping an eye on. They will be hosting Kussesauna, a female-focused sauna gathering that looks both empowering and intimate, and they’re planning a relaunch party at the end of August that promises good vibes and steamy sessions. If you’re after something more atmospheric, their monthly full moon long sauna sessions sound like the perfect way to mark a new lunar cycle with a deep sweat and soft glow.

If you’re curious to try it out, I’d recommend making a full afternoon of it. After the session, we grabbed a hot dog from Harry’s Place nearby—a bit of a local institution—and I could see future sauna-goers heading to Café Lunden for music or other events afterward. Think of it as the perfect soft-start to your afternoon.

Just Sauna may be under the bridge, but the experience it offers is warm, thoughtful, and low-key. I’m really glad we went—and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on what they do next.
