Becoming Scandinavian, One Saunagus at a Time

This summer, I set out with a simple goal: to try a few local saunagus and see what was happening around them. Partly it was curiosity, partly because I had just started my blog and wanted to understand more about these spaces.

But what started as “research” quickly turned into something much bigger. I realized there are so many different saunas in Copenhagen, each with its own personality, atmosphere, and rhythm. Before I knew it, I had spent the summer hopping between them — sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, sometimes with my husband.

Every sauna had its own identity, almost like tracks on an album. Some mellow, some energizing, some deeply social. Depending on my mood, there was always one that fit:

  • Heat Harmony – my easy go-to, close by and perfect for a quick evening treat.

  • Just Sauna – more of an occasion. It’s a 10-minute bike ride away, so I usually save it for a weekend or slower evening.

  • Rört – pure community vibes. It feels big, alive, and welcoming. (One saunagus even ended with a group ABBA singalong in the sauna — I had no idea what was happening, but I had the best time.)

  • Sauna85 – effortlessly cool, filled with people who really know how to take care of themselves — inspiring me to make the most out of my session too.

Beyond the heat, each spot had details that made it memorable: beautiful visuals, thoughtful design, and unique activities happening around the saunas. I came across long table dinners with Kaydi, sound baths, Friday morning runs with 7daysactive, and even relaunch events like the one at Just Sauna. Each of these experiences gave the sauna its own flavor — a blend of wellness, culture, and community.

And then there were the people. Every place had its own energy, and every time I joined, I left with new connections and impressions. Rört, especially, felt alive in that way — like stepping into a bigger, warmer circle.

Looking back, I didn’t just come away with a list of saunas for the blog. I came away with something more personal: the joy of slowing down, the luxury of taking time for myself. Whether through meditation, deep relaxation, or simply giving my body a break, I found myself enjoying every visit more than expected. Bonus: you walk out smelling amazing.

In the end, this summer of saunagus wasn’t just research. It became genuine joy, peace, and a little ritual of care woven into my everyday life. It showed me that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated — sometimes it’s as simple as sitting in the heat, breathing deeply, and letting go.

So here I am: hooked, happy, and maybe a little more Scandinavian than I was before. One saunagus at a time.
